Jay-Z is looking to bring some of Sin City into his Empire State of Mind.
Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z, posted a brief summary of its pitch to put up a casino on Times Square on social media on Thursday.
The pitch called ‘IT’S TIME, TIMES SQUARE’ highlighted the company’s plans for Caesar Palace Times Square following Jay-Z’s partnership with SL Realty and Caesar Entertainment which was announced late last year.
Roc Nation indicated in the tweet that they’re seeking a New York City gaming license which is expected to be handed out sometime within the calendar year.
The grammy-award winner’s pitch focused on representing the diversity that exists within New York to be present in the ownership group.
“The winning group must have a track record of turning words into deeds — of putting New York City and its residents first — people of all races, religions, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, and socio-economic classes,” the Roc Nation post read. “Our proposal lays out an innovative plan that will not only draw additional tourists to our city but will also enhance the lives of everyday New Yorkers.”
The proposal also included bullets that said the proposed casino would be beneficial for “the lives of everyday New Yorkers” by creating positive impact and development towards mass transit, sanitation, and other business, among other things.
The plan also intends to commit $115 million for diverse theater programs that will benefit those on Broadway.
The letter comes after blowback that the proposed casino has received from a newly-formed coalition called ‘No Times Square Casino’ that is trying to stop a casino from being built on Times Square.
The coalition is led by several Broadway theater owners who believes the casino will make the area “less welcoming to families.”
